The Africa Reproductive Justice Litigation Academy
Introduction
The Africa Reproductive Justice Academy capacitates African individuals to undertake strategic and public interest litigations on reproductive justice across the continent.
The Academy’s implementation follows Ahaki’s realisation that despite the need for progressive laws and policies that ensure access to sexual and reproductive health and rights on the continent, African judicial systems lack specialised training opportunities where litigants can apply their formal education in practice. This has resulted in a shortage of qualified professionals equipped to tackle reproductive justice litigation issues across the continent.
The Academy professionalises reproductive justice litigation in Africa through accredited programmes recognised by national and regional authorities, customised trainings, structured mentorships and fellowships, and an ideation hub for reproductive justice case conceptualisation and thought leadership. In this regard, its claim to distinction is its positionality as a centre in Africa were litigants, scholars, activists and researchers are capacitated in the theorisation, conceptualisation, and enforcement of reproductive justice litigation in Africa.
