SUMMARY:The Inaugural Regional Reproductive Justice Litigation Baraza
DESCRIPTION:Presentations: \nAfricentric Approaches to Reproductive Justice in the EAC Region \nAfya na Haki (Ahaki) is implementing the Litigating Reproductive Justice in Africa (LIRA) Programme which aims to establish\, strengthen and sustain a regional network of stakeholders invested in progressive. evidence-based and collaborative litigation for access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SHR) in Africa. Ahaki has collaborated with Makerere University Human Rights and Peace Centre to organise an Inaugural Regional Baraza. This Baraza will bring together experts and specialists on all issues related to reproductive justice to develop and execute an SHR litigation agenda grounded in the reproductive justice paradigm. \nFor the past several years\, Africa has witnessed a steady stream of jurisprudence that is expanding the frontiers on legal access to SHR and reproductive justice. Courts operating in varied normative and sociocultural contexts have delivered a medley of positive landmark rulings interpreting and clarifying the application of reproductive rights and freedoms within their jurisdictions. \nHowever\, focus on individual rights might not necessarily lead to broader social and political change required to create a safe and enabling environment for enjoyment of reproductive rights.\nConsequently\, the paradigm of reproductive justice which seeks to understand and account for the realities that structure women and men’s sexual and reproductive lives differently with varying outcomes must be championed. \nOBJECTIVES\n1. Frame an Africentric reproductive justice litigation agenda.\n2. To design a reproductive justice framework that contextually resonates with the legal systems in Atrica.\n3. To support ongoing and new strategic litigation to serve as a catalyst for progressive administrative and institutional action. \nAGENDA \nCONCEPT NOTE \nRegional Reproductive Justice Litigation Alliance Consensus document
